The promotion of international contacts has always been one of the major tasks of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Presently, it is involved in 47 contracts on research cooperation with partner institutions in 43 countries.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is Austria's representative in international scientific organisations. Among its scientific duties, it is also responsible for cooperation agreements of the central government of Austria.
